Notre Dame de Paris is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in France. It is located in oldest area of Paris: l'Ile de la Cité. People have been living in this area since Roman times and even before. The cathedral is in the Gothic style with ornate stained-glass windows, ancient tombs, and impressive sculptures. The architectural detail is exquisite. For those interested in the history of Paris, there are excavations under the piazza where archaeologists conduct research.
